I visited the Auld Kirk in Sep 2022. It is an increbibly beautiful B&B that keeps the ancient charm of the Old Kirkbean Church while combining the luxury of modern conviences! It is located in Kirkbean, which is located in one of the most beautiful spots on earth!! Also, this is where John Paul Jones attended church as a child as well as attended school in the town. His father is buried in the old church cemetery that Vanessa Mounsey (owner) keeps properly maintained. The John Paul Jones Birthplace Cottage and Museum along with the Arbigland Estate Gardens are located just a couple of minutes away. Besides the beauty of this spot, it was also vital to the American Revolutionary War and the winning of America's independence. There is also an award winning pub just a couple of minutes away!! An incredibly restful B&B with a fireplace and sofa that you may want to fall asleep in!!
We had two nights here really enjoyed it. Lovely building and location. Vanessa very welcoming room lovely and well appointed. Breakfast excellent. Fergus the dog was lovely. Would highly recommend.
We had a lovely time at the Auld Kirk, the food was excellent, the host is kind and helpful, and the room was spotless and comfortable. We had the honour of bringing the inaugural child to the BnB and our 12 year old was so delighted by everything including the charming dog. The BnB is also easy to get to and from Dumfries using public transit. There is a regular service which is punctual and inexpensive. The village pub etc of Kirkbean is a pleasant stroll down to the water. We loved it!
Lovely stay though brief, Vanessa the hostess was most congenial, recommended without reservation. But do make a reservation if you know what l mean😄
We had a wonderful three night stay at the Auld Kirk as we walked around the coast of Britain. Vanessa and Fergus were great hosts and really helpful. The B&B has all been so well thought out. Our hosts are keen cyclists and they are planning a secure bike store and maintenance area. We were very grateful to be able to dry off our wet gear in the boiler room. We had great breakfasts served early so we could get off on our walks. This has been our best B&B stay in over 3000 miles walking the coast. You really won't be disappointed if you stay at the Auld Kirk
Stayed here for a couple of days cycling in the area. Great location (small, quiet rural community with easy access to the Galloway coastline), ideal for hill walking (Criffel on doorstep), cycling (quiet roads, 7 Stanes & Mabie off-road) or if you just want to chill. A seashore pub a mile down the road (food, drink & views). Lots of history & interest in the building & grounds - old church renovated/refurbished to a very high standard. And Vanessa's Solway Rarebit for breakfast! Thoroughly enjoyed my stay.
The Auld Kirk is a lovely B&B in the most gorgeous setting. The church has been renovated beautifully, with modern bathrooms and features, but still has so much of the original character of the building. We stayed in the James Craik room which has a boutique feel to it. Coffee, tea and homemade shortbread in the room was a nice touch. Vanessa is a lovely host and her breakfasts are delicious…the rarebit, what a treat! We had the pleasure of being the first guests 😊 there will be many happy guests to follow us for sure!!Highlights: cosy big bed, large modern bathroom with walk in shower, great location for exploring the area, good WiFi, friendly hosts and wee Fergus the dog.Recommend: The Steamboat Pub for drinks by the sea, walking up Criffel, 7Stanes.
We had a great stay at The Auld Kirk. Vanessa was the perfect host. We are already looking forward to our next stay.
