Edward Milligan MD ( 1786- 1833) was an inspirational man who spent most of his working life as a shoemaker before gaining distinction as a lecturer of medical science in Edinburgh. A self-taught linguist and mathematician, he paid for his own education and achieved great eminence among the learned community. Perhaps most remarkably, though, he achieved much of this success despite being blind.
